All-time psy trance classics definitely include: 1. Oga Syndicate's "Argon" 2. Robert Miles' "Endless" 3. DWFS "Initial Gain" 4. Juno Reactor's "Feel The Universe" (plus, about half of the rest of the album Beyond The Infinite that this track comes from is pretty good psy) Of all these, Argon is the prototypical psy-trance track. It has all the elements of excellent EDM: strong use of both analog and synthetic instrumentation; danceability; and mixability. Psy-wise, it's got the goods there, too: wide soundscape; duality of a slower melody behind the immediately catchy phrases; and lots of echo! I actually like Initial Gain more but Argon is more prototypical of what psy trance is today whereas Initial Gain is a throwback track. Trance used to sound more like Initial Gain before the mid-90s, before commercial trance: Juno Reactor is always associated with techno above all, but their techno was very atmospheric, so some of their stuff sounds quite psy (back when they first broke on the scene techno still sounded very interesting and was very diverse in tempos and themes. Today's techno pretty much sounds more like house music made by people too lazy to program an all-synth melodic hook, but before techno turned into today's crap a lot of early trance sounded like early techno, and this is the reason why I recommend you get the whole Beyond The Infinite album; the album betrays strong psy notes) .

Think about it - Sony Music Entertainment is one of the biggest record companies in the world; Yamaha is the largest manufacturer of musical instruments in the world; Japan has the sixth-largest population in the world; the music industry generates billions and billions of dollars worldwide every year. Yet how many Japanese artists have had a No. 1 hit in the US or European charts? One. Yes, one - and that was way back in 1963 (Sukiyaki by Sakamoto Kyu). Related content: check out our many profiles of Japan's top pop artists. So what's the problem with Japan? Several things - record companies are happy with the huge domestic sales racked up by the bands under their control (literally); the language barrier is a problem, with few Japanese feeling comfortable speaking or singing in English; and the fact that there is no market for the vast majority of Japanese pop music outside of Asia (other Asian countries have a strange admiration for all things Japanese, including the music). There have been a few bright spots over the years but they're few and far between. Bands with musical talent, like Southern All Stars, Chage and Aska or Dreams Come True turn out records with some songs that stay with you but nothing that would break them in the US or Europe. In the, other bands, like Shonen Knife, Pizzicato Five , Cibo Matto and Buffalo Daughter have a cult following abroad but little commercial success. The Japanese music scene 1958-1990 The pop/rock music scene has gone through a few different stages over the years. The rockabilly sounds of the late 50's became popular in the cities of Japan just after they revolutionised the US music scene. Young guys and gals flocked to see the stars of the day do their best impersonations of Elvis and Gene Vincent at the Western Festival in Tokyo in Februaury 1958. In the 60's, it was the Beatles and the Rolling Stones who inspired the imitation of local groups. Ereki (electric) guitar music was the in sound of what became known as the Group Sounds phenomenon. The best known local bands of the decade include the Tigers and the Spiders. The Tigers were the first band to play the Budokan, then the biggest indoor arena in the country. 1965 saw the first successful tour by US surf-sound band the Ventures, who have retained their huge popularity to this day. Record industry overkill finished off the Group Sounds era and the seventies saw the arrival of New Rock and the Idols. Chage and Aska Pizzicato Five Aidoru (idol) was the word used to describe cute, girl-next-door singers who were designed, controlled and marketed just like any other product. In fact, for the talent agencies, having these starlets chosen to be the face of a candy bar or instant noodles in a TV commercial was as much part of the plan as selling records. The 70's and 80's saw hundreds of these idols come and go, such as Pink Lady, Yamaguchi Momoe, Tanokin Trio and The Candies. Pink Lady had nine No.1 hits in a row between 1976 and 1978 before disappearing without trace. The 80's saw a degree of international success for the techno-pop of YMO (Yellow Magic Orchestra). Band member Sakamoto Ryuichi went on to become the best known Japanese musician in the world but with little commercial success outside of movie soundtracks. The decade also saw the peak of so-called New Music, a fusion of folk, rock and pop typified by singer/songwriter Matsutoya Yumi, or Yuming. The top rock bands of the 80's included Southern All Stars, Kome Kome Club, Checkers and Princess Princess. The 1990's and beyond Although the heyday of the idols was in the 80's, the musical artists of the Johnny's Jimusho talent agency such as SMAP, V6 and Kinki Kids have ruled the airwaves for the best part of the decade. Having their own TV shows keeps them in the public eye even when they're between singles or tours. Together with artists 'created' by producer Komuro Tetsuya, they have ensured that bland pop music by youngsters who can't sing or play has been the hallmark of the genre known as J-pop . The mid-90's saw Komuro make it as an artist with the groups TM Network and globe. He then moved up a gear to exploit aspiring singers and fans alike to become one of the richest men in Japan. In his breakthrough year, 1995, Komuro's music made some 27 billion yen and the following year he had 5 of the top ten singles. His many creations include the Avex Trax label and artists trf, Amuro Namie and Kahala Tomomi.

While thousands of people struggle to make a living playing music, there remain an elite few who have become millionaries from doing so. Here we highlight the top ten richest musicians alive today. Enjoy! #10 Mariah Carey - $510 Million Net Worth While Mariah Carey isn’t really making headlines anymore (except for when Nick Cannon divorced her) she still stands strong in this list. Fun fact: No one knows for sure what year she was born. Many sources say 1969 while other’s say 1970. Mariah won’t shed any light on the subject. Nick? #9 Jay-Z - $560 Million Net Worth This self proclaimed rapper might not be the most wealthy on the list, but he is definitely the most commercially successful. With over 100 million record sales and 19 grammys, Jay-Z respectfully makes the cut. But, watch out for his wife Beyonce, who may soon eclipse him. Their household income is already estimated at over $1 billion. Fun fact: Jay-Z claims to have shot his brother at age 12 for stealing his jewelry. #8 Bono - $600 Million Net Worth This Irish singer whose real name is Paul David Hewson (no wonder he goes by Bono) who is famous for his trademark glasses and outspoken activist views. You either love or hate this guy, but if you are a regular on the show South Park, you are probably doing something right. While many argue his band U2’s music has declined since the 80s or 90s, they still managed to gross over $730 million in their 360° Tour in 2010. Fun fact: Bono is a Knight. #7 Céline Dion - $630 Million Net Worth I guess when you are the youngest of 14 children, you have to work hard to stand out. This was no problem for Celine Dion as she won numerous awards and contests on her way to fame. She became a pop culture icon in America after the release of Titanic and she never looked back.

Psychedelic trance artists list, with photos, ranked best to worst by votes. List of good psychedelic trance DJs includes a filter so you can sort by the groups’s label and what albums they've put out. This list of the top psychedelic trance DJs in the world includes all musicians who have released recordings that have gotten distribution, and is an up-to-date list. Psychedelic trance groups and artists are shown below along with any additional genres in which their music belongs. If available, you can also see information about where all progressive trance DJs on this list got started. These are truly the greatest psychedelic trance artists of all time, since the most famous psychedelic trance artists ever are listed, and the order is decided by actual fans of the best psychedelic trance music. You can click on the psychedelic trance DJ names to see more information about that particular notable psychedelic trance group. If they're near the top of the best psychedelic trance DJ list, though, then they should have at least some information available. All the top psychedelic trance artists named on the list also have discographies on their pages if you click on the psychedelic trance artist names themselves. This list below has everything from Infected Mushroom to Spiritualized. Rank the best artists by voting on them and seeing which ones rise to the top. What makes the most sense to vote on, is it between Aartiston All Ships and Kaiaphas? All important, significant and iconic names in psychedelic trance music history deserve your votes, so make sure to choose wisely. You can only vote once on this list. The list includes all new psychedelic trance DJ, and if there are any missing on the list, you can always add them yourself. Just make sure they aren't already on the list and check your spelling, because this is already an accurate compilation of the best examples of psychedelic trance, as well as a good place to start if you're asking yourself, or friends, exactly how to get into psychedelic trance music. Especially since the artists at the top of the list will at the very least be the best choices if you're looking for a list of good psychedelic trance artists with which to start out. No point in listening to them if they aren't actually good or even half-way decent psychedelic trance artists. This list answers the questions "who are the best psychedelic trance artists of all time?" and "who is the greatest psychedelic trance DJs ever?" If you know enough about the genre, please vote based on the quality of the artist's music instead of just voting for the most popular psychedelic trance artists that you might've heard of, but not really listened to closely enough to cast an informed vote. You could always share this on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and more to see what your social network would rank number one. (78 items)

The halftime show appearance is one of a number of events that the Philharmonic announced Thursday for its upcoming residency, Oct. 8 through 11, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Also planned are three full-orchestra concerts, a keynote speech by music director Alan Gilbert and master classes for University of Michigan students. The Philharmonic brass will have some company on the Michigan Stadium field: over 1, 000 musicians are expected to be part of the halftime show, as the homecoming game also brings an alumni band, and the UMS Choral Union. The appearance is touted as the first time that members of a major orchestra have participated in a Michigan halftime show, and it comes as high expectations swirl around the university's football program: After a 5-7 season in 2014 (and no bowl game appearance), the Wolverines wooed

With the overwhelming amount of music coming out each week, it’s easy to bypass certain new artists throughout the year. We totally get it. That’s why we sifted through our Spotify playlists and plowed through the new artists that surfaced this year to find out which artists we’re truly thankful for. From indie-rock to R&B and pop, these are the new guys and girls on the block you should check out while you’re waiting for Thanksgiving dinner to cook. Oh Wonder Brit pop duo Oh Wonder spent a year releasing a new song each month before releasing their debut record this September. Oh Wonder’s songs are much like love letters — they tell a stories of loss, love and heartbreak. (We’re also thankful that the band’s sweetly harmonized lyrics are so comforting. Sometimes you just need that.) Day Wave Day Wave makes you feel like you’re living in a California dream. If Best Coast and Real Estate made a supergroup, that’s what this group would be. Through longing lyrics, echoed vocals, and perfectly imperfect lo-fi melodies, Jackson Phillips makes songs you want to keep on repeat. DNCE 2015 was the year Joe Jonas decided to start a band with his friends, and everyone rejoiced. The project is fueled by funky dance tracks with catchy choruses. With one EP under their belt this year, we’re hoping another one (or even an album) is in store for 2016. Transviolet LA-based four piece Transviolet make awesome pop songs with romantic lyrics that just get stuck in your head. This ethereal electropop group doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere soon, and we’re not mad about it. Julien Baker Listening to Julien Baker’s debut album, it seems like she’s lived a lifetime in her 19 years. Her songs are simple, sad, and real — her debut album Sprained Ankle feels like a passageway into her mind. We’re more than thankful for her because she reminds us of Jenny Lewis and makes us want to have a really beautiful cry. LION BABE Jillian Hervey (who just so happens to be Vanessa Williams’ daughter) has pipes , which she shows off alongside Lucas Goodman in LION BABE. The R&B-meets-retro duo flaunt empowering lyrics, catchy beats, and gorgeous hair (Hervey’s mane is to die for). We’re about all of those things. JONES The latest soul pop export from the UK goes by her last name and likes to keep things simple. It’s something that shines through in her music too. With minimal production and maximum feels, JONES makes sadness feel like sunshine.
