Underground House music artists

Everyone and their mothers wanted to get in on the Top 100 DJs game this year after DJ Mag’s almost laughable results. At Magnetic Magazine, we tried to get one going, a bunch of other small sites did their own, too. is a fairly well-known blog in certain circles, and they did their own list which is worthy of recognition. It was fully reader-based with vote and it’s very interesting how you get a very clear idea for who their reader base is.

Perusing the results, you may be struck by a particular thought: almost every person on this list is huge. It’s not like the heat tapers off near the bottom—hell, number 100 is a living legend.

I’m sorry, I’ve never heard of Andrew Weatherall. I’ve never heard of their #1, Dixon, either. And that’s understandable, I don’t listen to house. But this list… tech house, deep house, acid house, bass house… it’s an underground house list. Maybe it’s just the dnb-head in me, but no Top 100 list is ever complete without Andy C, as he is an objectively phenomenal DJ.

The majority of DJs that I recognize are between #70-40, like Carl Cox, Skream, Art Department, Dusky, etc. Four Tet comes in at #90, and Seth Troxler manages to squeeze into #4. But I have to say that I’m at a loss for probably 70-80% of this list.

Take a look at and let us know what you think. Is this an accurate representation of the Top 100, or is it just a reflection of the interests of their reader base?
