Say goodbye to the old Music app. With iOS 8.4 Apple has a whole new jam... er... app!

iOS 8.4 brings a whole new Music app to the iPhone and iPad. It includes a lot of great new features, including support for Apple Music, Beats 1 radio, and the Connect social network, but it also has a bunch of features designed to make playing our music better than ever as well. To make use of it all, you just have to find it. And since some of it has moved around, we're here to help make sure you do!

Where are my artist, song, album, and other tabs?

The new Music app uses the tabs to select between the different services, so what used to be the artist, song, album, and other tabs are now categories inside the My Music tab. Tap on the category button (it defaults to Artists) and choose song, album, or any of the other options.

Here's what the old version looked like (top), and how the same functionality is implemented in the new Music app (bottom).

Here's how to do all the basics:

What about playlists, they're still there, right?

Still there and still a tab! Things look different, and there are a ton of new features, but the basics are still the same. Tap on the Playlists tab, tap on the playlist you want, and tap on the thumbnail to start playing immediately. You'll see the track name in the mini player but you can tap it to get the full Now Playing screen experience.

Here's what the old version looked like (top), and how the new Music app implements it (bottom).

There's a lot more you can do now as well:

Wait, mini player? Is that new?

It is! The mini player is a persistent set of controls that you can use from any place in the Music app to pause/play, access Now Playing, and get additional options.

Here's what it looks like:

And here's everything you can do with it:

Cool, anything else that completely new?

Well, not completely new, but new for iPhone and iPad—Up Next. Think of it like a secondary playlist that you can add music too without obliterating what's already playing. Tap a the More button (looks like •••) next to a song, album, or playlist, and then Play Next to add it to the beginning of your queue or Add to Up Next to add it to the end. You can access your queue, and your history, from the Now Playing screen.

And here's all the details:

Any changes to AirPlay?

Good ones! You can still AirPlay the standard way, with Control Center, but you can also AirPlay directly from the Now Playing screen as well.
